My main category of films for analysis — films based on real events. This time, however, there will be an exception, and we’ll be talking about a kind, family-friendly film.
The main character is an ordinary guy, Paul Carpenter, who lands an internship at a mysterious company. Very quickly he realizes that it’s not just an office, but a place where magic is part of the business. The company is led by a charismatic but clearly not the friendliest executive, and the further the story goes, the more obvious it becomes that behind this “magical corporation” lies something more.
The two-hour film flies by — as if it lasts at most an hour. Christoph Waltz, whom I associate with villains from his previous films, also appears in a negative role here. Yet even in this case, his role turned out to be different from all his other roles.
On the downside: this is a “one-time watch” kind of film, and at times it’s so simple that you want to say “it could have been better.” However, that very simplicity is the film’s great advantage. So that one time you will definitely enjoy it, especially if you are a Christoph Waltz fan.
