A film that is unlikely to make it to the top of the ratings and is unlikely to end up on any must-watch lists. There is no action-packed storyline, no intricate plot, and no gripping detective story. The plot is fairly simple and presented as linearly as possible. The film itself is heavy, with a depressive undertone, and it unfolds at a rather slow pace. Every day that the protagonist has to endure stretches on like an eternity.
However, I decided not to pass this film by and to rate it quite highly, for at least two reasons. First, the film’s theme is extremely real: addiction and the attempt to break a harmful habit — something thousands of people face every year. Second, this story is based on real events.
The genre of films based on real events is one of my favorites. This film was no exception, and after watching it, I wanted (as I have after many other films) to learn more about the real story of the protagonist.
31-year-old Molly, brilliantly played by Mila Kunis, in addition to her main problem, also faces a number of related issues: broken family ties, distrust and suspicion from those closest to her.
I recommend watching this film, but be prepared for it to make you empathize with the main character. If the story grabs you, you can also look into the real case and compare what was changed in the film and what remained without distortion.
