Introduction

The year that I can probably count as a win for myself, because almost everything planned was done. Unfortunately, this year our beloved and devoted dog Elza died at the age of about 11.5, however by all other indicators the year turned out more than successful.

Elza

I decided to call this year the year of “tails,” because, always racing forward, there were still some unfinished things left. However, besides the tails, I managed to do virtually everything planned. If you look at the names of my years, they look as follows:

  • 2015 — Year of Web Programming Theory
  • 2016 — Year of Advanced Web Programming Theory
  • 2017 — Year of Web Programming Practice
  • 2018 — Year of Socialization
  • 2019 — Year of Travel
  • 2020 — Year of Reading IT Books
  • 2021 — Year of Buying the First Apartment
  • 2022 — Year of Buying a Car from a Dealership
  • 2023 — Year of Buying the 2nd and 3rd Apartments
  • 2024 — Year of “Tails”

I decided to single out as many as 9 points by which this year became successful:

  1. Completed renovation in the second apartment.
  2. The second apartment began to be rented out and bring passive income.
  3. My wife and I went on a trip abroad and visited Azerbaijan and Georgia in one vacation. We rented cars and traveled around these countries. Before that, mostly all my trips (except a big trip to Russia) were with my friends.
  4. I officially changed my status in my passport, and now a stamp is displayed there.
  5. We carried out the resale of another apartment, which, in principle, can be considered a very good event.
  6. In learning English, I don’t know whether only this year or previous ones, I managed to pull it up from nothing to a normal beginner level. At least, it was this year, after a short pause in trips abroad, that I was able to find this out through real use.
  7. We also had a second independent trip, but this time not to post-Soviet countries, where many of the adult generation know Russian, but much farther — to Indonesia, or more precisely, to Bali, with a transit through China. So I have been on the southern side of the equator.
  8. Another pleasant event, which, perhaps, will remain unannounced.
  9. And finally, I wrote and published my first book.

Since my book is about productivity, it won’t be superfluous to say that I further improved my approaches and methods in planning and, as it seems to me, have now practically brought them to some ideal and perfect level. After all, if in previous years I set 4–6 goals, this year I set a little more than 30. Perhaps right now I won’t reveal all my goals in detail, but I intend to do so in my second book, where I will describe in detail what these goals are, what they were at the beginning of the year, and whether I ultimately managed to accomplish them. Although I quite possibly can share the list of goals itself.

At the same time, a little more than a hundred videos about space and science in general were not included here.

Phrases of the Year

Top most frequent phrases I happened to hear this year:

  • I’ll come home from work and go to sleep.
  • Today I’ll go to bed earlier.
  • Wait here, I’ll take a look over there.

Sport

This year I had 42 runs. I ran a record 509 kilometers. And my total mileage was 1224 kilometers. There is a separate article to review the running results.

Food and Health

My diet hasn’t changed much. As always, I try to do without soda. I don’t eat chips, croutons, and other junk. Over the past year, I had tests done twice as planned and didn’t do any additional examinations. Overall, the year passed without illnesses or colds, although in April, while abroad during a period of great stress, I still had a fever for a whole day.

Of all the possible counts that can be kept in this subsection, I continue to keep count of alcohol days. Here are the days on which I drank at least one glass of wine, a glass of beer, or a shot of something stronger this year:

January: 1, 5, 6
February: 9, 14
March: 8
April: 7, 9, 10
May: 4, 31
June: 7, 14, 15
July: 19, 20
August: 16, 17, 24
September: 14
November: 2, 8, 9, 16
December: 14, 21

Total 26 days. And here is how this looks against the backdrop of other recent years:

Games

This year and in many others, I didn’t play either computer or mobile games.

Education

Here everything is so stable that year after year I copy the previous text, only slightly modifying it. With education in 2023 everything was stable: podcasts, articles, books. A separate, more detailed article about books came out a little earlier. I also continue to run an Instagram account, where I briefly review books I’ve read and give recommendations.

Films and Series

Once again I didn’t watch a single series this year, and I’m proud of it. As in previous years, from time to time I rewatched some cult films from Kinopoisk and IMDb. As in the previous year, I actively went to the cinema. As in the previous year, I made it there 20 times. Moreover, my wife dragged me to one of the films even 2 times. Here is the list of films:

Cinema visits by year
  1. Chicken Run 2
  2. The Big Race: Audi vs Lancia
  3. The Beekeeper
  4. The Master and Margarita
  5. The Master and Margarita
  6. One Life
  7. Poor Things
  8. Freud's Last Session
  9. City of Secrets: The Missing
  10. A Spy Out of His Mind
  11. The Asphalt Jungle
  12. Bad Boys for Life
  13. City of Fear
  14. The Suspect List
  15. Inside Out 2
  16. Despicable Me 4
  17. Madame Clicquot
  18. Joker: Madness for Two
  19. Gladiator 2
  20. The Adventures of Paddington 3

“One Life” and “Freud's Last Session” with Anthony Hopkins are perhaps the best films I went to this year. “The Master and Margarita,” “Poor Things,” “The Asphalt Jungle,” “Madame Clicquot,” and “The Suspect List” are also something I would recommend watching. For lovers of something strange and unusual, I can recommend “A Spy Out of His Mind,” while for classic and family leisure, “Bad Boys for Life,” “Inside Out 2,” “Despicable Me 4,” and, of course, “The Adventures of Paddington 3” will do.

Movements

To finish, let’s count taxi rides: this year there were 22. Here is what the graph of taxi use over recent years looks like:

And also at the end of the year we acquired a new family member.
