General Description
A 420-page book telling one real story from Silicon Valley. You won't find images, tables, or any other material format in the book besides text. But even this text is quite lively and interesting. The difficulty level is easy, so you can perceive it as a novel, only, unfortunately, a real one. The book has over 350 comments and sources, so if this story deeply moves and interests you, thanks to the explanatory notes and references, you can study it in more detail.
Table of Contents
Usually I give a very brief summary of chapters/sections. But in this case, it's not a book in my usual format about programming, self-development, psychology, or something else. It really is very similar to a novel, where instead of a love line there is a line of information technology. Therefore, in order not to deeply spoil each chapter, I think that posting the table of contents will be more useful than making a brief summary of each chapter, of which there are as many as 24 here. So, the chapters of the book:
- Chapter 1. A Purposeful Life
- Chapter 2. The Gluebot
- Chapter 3. Apple Envy
- Chapter 4. Goodbye East Paly
- Chapter 5. The Childhood Neighbor
- Chapter 6. Sunny
- Chapter 7. Dr. Jay
- Chapter 8. The miniLab
- Chapter 9. The Wellness Play
- Chapter 10. Who Is LTC Shoemaker?
- Chapter 11. Lighting a Fuisz
- Chapter 12. Ian Gibbons
- Chapter 13. Chiat\Day
- Chapter 14. Going Live
- Chapter 15. Unicorn
- Chapter 16. The Grandson
- Chapter 17. Fame
- Chapter 18. The Hippocratic Oath
- Chapter 19. The Tip
- Chapter 20. The Ambush
- Chapter 21. Trade Secret
- Chapter 22. La Matanza
- Chapter 23. Damage Control
- Chapter 24. The Empress Has No Clothes
Opinion
An excellent story about how one startup appeared in Silicon Valley, which quickly became popular and attracted huge money from investors. Its leader and founder Elizabeth Holmes tried to imitate Steve Jobs in everything, but only the product she created turned out to be completely unusable. An excellent book to find out what she was doing, how she was exposed, and what atmosphere was in her team.
